Our Story

The Story behind Bradley's Bones

The beginning of Bradley's Bones started in the year of 2004. I had a 'sister' according to my mother, her name was Sierra. She was my mothers beloved German Shepard. It was our joke that Sierra and I were 'sisters', I would call Mom up and ask," How's my sister doing?" and we would laugh. Mom took Sierra everywhere with her. They were never separated.

In 2003 Sierra was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Sierra was seven years old. Big dogs don't usually live as long as smaller breeds, but still, you think you will have them around until they are at least 10 or 11 years old. Mom and the rest of the family were devastated. As Christmas approached, Sierra stopped eating. Nothing appealed to her.

The year before I had bought Sierra some gourmet dog biscuits at a kiosk in Towne East shopping center. I remembered her just loving them. But when I went there to buy some more, they were no longer there. I decided to try my hand at making some, in the hopes that Sierra would love mine and start to eat again.

Through trial and error, I finally got the ingredients right and as sick as Sierra was, she gave them the paws up and munched them down. It was the only thing she would eat. Sierra now rests quietly in the garden my mother and her used to sit in on nice days. But through the process of creating my Gourmet Dog Biscuits, I acquired two taste testers, my own 'children'.. Blue and Skye, our two Siberian Huskies.

I found that I enjoyed baking for my own two 'children' and suddenly found that I had more bones than the two of them needed. So I started to bring them to work giving them to friends with dogs as gifts. They came back the next day telling me their dogs loved them. Through their encouragement, I entered a few craft shows and, again, they were a hit. I approached a few local retailers and was offered the chance to sell them at their stores. From there things grew, we now have outlets selling our bones all over Wichita and the surrounding area. The locations can be found by using the Locations button on this web page.

It is our sincere wish that your special 'friends' will love them also. If they do, we have a section on this site where we will have pictures of our satisfied customers along with their comments on our Gourmet Dog Biscuits, send a picture of your friend and comments.

Growth update - I have recently taken on a partner, Jan Wesley and added another kitchen with additional commercial stoves and mixers to keep up with demand. My partner is the reason I started selling back in early 2004. She introduced me to my first wholesale customer, so who better to partner with to move my business into the next phase? With the addition of stores across the United States we have brought on my husband Dave who does all our shipping and handling with a minimal amount of breakage. Thanks to the two legged and four legged faithful customers we continue to prosper.

Thank you for all the feedback, please keep it coming.
